Rebecca,
Rebecca
Rebecca, Rebecca oh what have you done
The lesson was there for the learning
My brother is banished to Botany Bay
These Gentry are no men for turning
I came to Cae White from the Valleys of fire
When the Chartist’s March was defeated
We came out of the hills, sick of government bills
But with another revolt we were greeted
Rebecca our Rebecca, Tom Rhyader by name
Was taken one night by the soldiers
Betrayed by Joe Scarlet for a fifty pound prize
Now Joey will grow no older
The Daughters found Joey down by the lime kilns
Where he slept when the cold nights were biting
He had sold out Rebecca in an Camarthen Inn
So that night was Joes time for dying
Rebecca our Rebecca is Flannagan now
And his daughters are ready for battle
But my heart has grown cold deep to my soul
So away from Cae White I must travel
Oh Jethro oh Jethro my mother she cried
Our Mortymer name has fallen
We are on the four winds for all of our sins
Now the land of the free is calling
Oh Rebecca, Rebecca what have you done
Though I know that your cause is righteous
As I sailed on the Cestria America bound
My heart is no longer for fighting
But as I looked back and saw my beautiful Wales
For the mountains and valleys to the Lord I gave
praise
For I knew that my soul would forever be chained
To the land of my fathers my beloved Wales

The
Hosts of Rebecca
listen
Following The Chartists March, the remnants of the Mortymer family have
moved to rural West Wales to live at Cae White, a farm run by their Grandfer.
Rebecca, Rebecca.
Jethro, the Mortymers youngest son, is now the man
of the family. We now take up his story through The
Hosts of Rebecca. The Rebecca riots are nightly occurrences
and Jethro eventually gets drawn into the fray.
